Meteorologists have raised their predictions of total snowfall for the area since Tuesday, Dec. 15. The National Weather Service says areas of Western and Central Massachusetts, as well as the Berkshires, may see up to 20 inches of snow accumulation.
Meanwhile, communities in Eastern Hampden and Hampshire counties can expect 8-12 inches of snow to fall overnight, according to the National Weather Service, with 12-16 inches total snowfall accumulation.
In areas less affected by the storm, snowfall is still anticipated to be around 11 to 15 inches.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of Massachusetts and Connecticut to be in effect from Wednesday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m. to Thursday, Dec. 17, 1 p.m.
Areas that will be hit particularly hard hit by Wednesday's storm include Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and northern Rhode Island. Snow may fall at 1-2 inches per hour at times and travel may be difficult to impossible at times.
As a precursor to the snowstorm, on Wednesday people can expect to experience increasing clouds, cool, dry air, strong winds, and minor coastal flooding.
